Ellie's Doctor Visit

We took Ellie to the doctor yesterday. She has seen this particular doctor every 6-9 months since she has been about 4 and she loves to go see him. He will perform surgery on Ellie in the next couple of years to correct the difference (about 1 5/8 inches) in the length of her legs. Every time she goes they do an x-ray of her hand and legs in order to chart her growth and eventually determine just the right time to remove the growth plate in her longer leg so the shorter one can catch up. This has never, ever slowed Ellie down, in fact she is one of the more determined and athletic kids I know. Frankly, no one even notices the difference, but it does make it a little more difficult for her to play violin and I'm sure over the years it will take a toll on her back if it is not fixed. The doctor told us yesterday that it will most likely be an inpatient procedure (about 24 hours) followed by 2 weeks with a knee immobilizer and crutches and another 2 with just the immobilizer. Her doctor is terrific and although he is very busy and always has interns following him around he always takes his time and really makes a point to connect with Ellie.
